From science to outreach

With the support of the scientists onboard FOREL, the Forel Heritage Association has made it its mission to communicate scientific programs, with a particular focus on raising public awareness about the challenges of climate change.

Through its educational mission, the Association seeks to bridge the gap between scientists, the general public, and indigenous communities in polar regions, which are directly affected by these changes.

Polar regions play a central role in the global climate balance and represent a crucial issue for our society. The poles are the most sensitive areas to climate change.

Educational actions

The FOREL Notebooks

The FOREL Notebooks is a series of mini educational comic strips. Each episode is dedicated to a research theme conducted aboard FOREL. To make the scientists' approach more accessible, illustrator Lauriane Miara uses drawings in a visual and playful format, while ensuring that the content is suitable for a young audience.

Podcast “FOREL, I’m receiving you 5/5”

A series of audio capsules in the form of interviews live from FOREL.
The goal of this series is to dive into the daily life of the FOREL crew through radio exchanges recorded between a crew member and someone on land.

Educational Visits

In France: Educational visits aboard FOREL are organized by the Cité de la Voile Éric Tabarly, an educational partner, in Lorient.
During expeditions: At each port of call, the FOREL crew invites local communities to board the vessel and learn about the ship and its missions.

Educational partnership

From design to communication, the Forel Heritage Association creates innovative partnerships to share the polar scientific world with young people and the general public.

The animators at the Cité de la Voile Éric Tabarly organize educational visits for school groups when FOREL is docked in Lorient.
