Navigation with ice and fog, welcome in Greenland !

Weather conditions: rough seas, light wind and sea ice drifting towards their destination, the harbour of Qaqortoq.

For the moment, the crew is approaching southern Greenland. Arrival is expected in a few days. The ice forecast of 17 th of June is not an easy one for them. They will have to find their way through the ice until Qaqortoq. As heavy winds are forecast, FOREL’s crew has decided to take shelter in Paamiut. They will wait for the good weather and ice conditions to sail to Qaqortoq : safety first.

The color code helps sailors make decisions in ice-covered waters. This code can be compared to traffic lights: green means you can pass, yellow means you must be careful and red means you are in danger.
